Bring your laptop to my Inverness shop. Explain what's wrong and when it started. Don't worry if you're not technical - I'll ask the right questions to understand the problem.
Step 2: Diagnosis
I'll examine your laptop, test what's working and what isn't, and diagnose the actual problem. This usually takes 1-2 hours. The diagnosis is free (unless very complex) because I want you to make an informed decision.
Step 3: Fixed-Price Quote
Once I know what's wrong, I'll give you a fixed-price quote including parts and labour. I'll also give you my honest opinion on whether it's worth repairing or if you'd be better off replacing the laptop.
Step 4: You Decide
No pressure. Take time to think about it. If you decide not to proceed, you only pay the diagnostic fee (if applicable). If you go ahead, I'll order any needed parts and book the repair.
Step 5: Expert Repair
I'll carefully disassemble your laptop, carry out the repair properly (no rushing or shortcuts), and reassemble everything. With 30 years experience, I know how to do this right.
Step 6: Testing & Collection
After repair, I test everything thoroughly - not just the part I fixed, but the whole laptop. Once I'm confident it's working properly, I'll call you to collect. All repairs come with a warranty.

Common Laptop Questions
Is my laptop too old to be worth repairing?
Depends on the problem and the laptop's age/spec. Generally, laptops under 5-6 years old are worth repairing for most issues. Older than that, it depends on what's broken and how much you paid originally. I'll give you honest advice - if it's not worth fixing, I'll tell you.
Can you work on gaming laptops?
Yes! I work on MSI, Asus ROG, Razer, Alienware, and other gaming laptops. They're often more complex to disassemble, but I have the experience. Screen and cooling system repairs are common on gaming laptops.
Will I lose my data during repair?
Usually not. Most hardware repairs don't affect your hard drive or data. However, I always recommend having backups before any repair, just in case. If your hard drive itself needs replacing, I can clone your data to the new drive for a small fee.
Do you work on Chromebooks?
I can help with basic Chromebook repairs like screen replacement or hardware issues. However, Chromebooks are limited in what can be repaired due to their design. Software issues with ChromeOS are outside my expertise.
What about Macs / MacBooks?
I primarily specialize in Windows laptops. I can help with some basic Mac repairs, but for complex Mac issues or newer MacBooks (especially with soldered components), I'd recommend an Apple specialist.
